One Child At a Time

Front of OCAT Building

The need for academic assistance among high school students is tremendous. In an effort to help meet this need, One Child At a Time, OCAT, Inc., was established during the summer of 1999. OCAT, a nonprofit organization, provides tutorial assistance free of charge to students who may be having difficulty in school, and who wish to improve their academic performance in math, English, social studies, science, and foreign language. Students, grades 9 through 12, from Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County who attend both public and private high schools, as well as students who are home schooled, may receive help four evenings each week at the OCAT facility located in the Stoneridge complex in Waynesboro.

The level of commitment exhibited by the students involved in the program is truly commendable. They are dedicated to the program and rarely miss their sessions, even after spending all day at school. Some of these students are athletes and some have part-time jobs, but they still find the time to honor their OCAT commitment.

The program is in operation Monday through Thursday evenings from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Students are scheduled for one-hour sessions and may come for instruction from one to four times a week. Students may also use the facility for quiet study and research.
